DD Highway Campground in Marquand, Missouri

(Disclosure:  My visit to DD HWY Campground was hosted, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own - unless you want to add yours in the comment section!)

Summer is about having fun, or at least it is in my house!   I try to pick something new to do at least twice a month, this past weekend we hit the banks of Castor River at DD Highway Campground.

They leave the light on for you!

DD Hwy Campground is newly developed campground just outside of Marquand, Missouri.   I think they have been there about 2 years, so this place is fresh and not as well known of.

Notice I said "fresh" here is a clue, this place is newly built and very clean, for some reason cleanliness is something that really sticks out in my head.

Classy Bathrooms

The campground sits on Castor River - when I say on you will be just a steps away from the river  giving you that perfect view, easy access, and a great place to relax.

Your DD Hwy Campground getaway depends on you, rather you want to spend the day, or if you want to spend a week.  The campground offers full RV Hookups, Tent Camping, float trips (canoe, kayaks, or tubes), and day visits.

My gang and I just spent the day, the kids loved the cold water of Castor River, catching crawdads, and soaking up the sun on the rocky river bank.

Headed to the deep water to do some splashing!

Like any other campground or resort your trip to DD Hwy Campground is what you make it.  The campground has your lodging, your facilities, and your most of your outdoor activities covered.

You can spend the day floating the Castor River - either by canoe, kayak, or tube.

Or you can use DD Hwy Campground as a base for your perfect family vacation, as the Madison County Area is full of things to do.

Other things to do near by:

Visit the town of Marquand, Missouri - Marquand is a quiet little country town, however, don't let that fool you.  The town has an Art Gallery, Winery, Historical Park, two Bed n Breakfasts, and a Performing Arts Hall that host shows almost monthly!  I suggest checking their website or Facebook page to see what is happening.

Great Eats Nearby -

Dog n Suds is favorite of my kiddos - they have amazing ice cream, and I hear some awesome corn dogs and hamburgers!

The Hideaway Café - Just outside of Marquand, known for their famous cinnamon rolls, but I highly suggest giving their pies and fish a try!

Durso Hills Winery and Bistro - A bit classier than the Hideaway Café and Dog n Suds, but still extremely family friendly.  They have delicious food, and I suggest sampling their wine - Jay the owner and wine maker, makes a fantastic Blackberry Wine that I cannot get enough of!

Nearby Entertainment -

If DD Hwy Campground and Marquand, MO does not keep you busy enough I do suggest you head up the road to Fredericktown, MO.  In Fredericktown you will find outdoor fun like The Offsets - zip lining and scuba diving., Amidon Conservation Area - Pink Rock, natural waterslides, Silver Mines - hiking, swimming, and even an old mine cave, Marble Creek Conservation Area - Mountain Biking, swimming, fishing, and great place to spend the day.

Fredericktown, MO is also full of great shopping, art, and many other events!

  1. I know my family and I will never go back to DD Campground again after this weekend. They charged $90 for two nights. Except for people per campsite was all that was allowed and that has changed since I was there two weeks ago. Just make up the rules as they go. Apparently they can't get enough business so they just rip off everybody that comes in there. I would not recommend this campground to anyone but go to the ones across the river across the road from him and Castor River Ranch
